IF YOU WERE STRANDED ON A ISLAND WITH ANOTHER PERSON WHO WOULD THAT PERSON BE: Either Steven Franciscus, or my brother Shaun Wickham. Both are Mr. Reliables, and if worst comes to worst I’d probably die of laughter more than anything. Great company they are.
YOUR THOUGHTS ON QLD PNG RUGBY LEAGUE: Qld PNG Kokomos are and outstanding corporation. Coming from humble beginnings and being very heavily family orientated. It has only nurtured the great success and progression of the organisation. And further more created a successful breeding ground for grass roots footy, and our up and coming talents in the junior ranks. Not only that but the professionalism of the coaching staff and the committee is second to none. Everything is always organised well and running smoothly come game day. It’s no wonder we have great success on the field and amongst the committee, and have really become a force to be reckoned with as an organisation.
ONE PERSON WHO INFLUENCED MY CAREER: If it had to be the one person whom really got the wheels turning on my footy career, it would have to be, the late Daryl Guymer. Sure my dad, and uncles all played back home, and my mum is footy mad. But he really said to me ‘come on mate, come down and sign on. Doesn’t matter how small you are, as long as you got the ticker to go the distance.’ So when I was 9 years old I signed up at norths Devils, and haven’t looked back since.

THOUGHTS ON QLD PNG Kokomos RL INC : the Png Qld Kokomos is fantastic and a privilege for young men to represent their country …. Even though it may be QLD Png (from experience) everyone who puts that jersey on plays with so much love and passion for our country. It’s a perfect way to showcase our talents ! Personally I love when it’s that time of year to throw on the colours .
WHICH PERSON HAS HAD THE MOST INFLUENCE ON YOUR CAREER : The most influential person in my career would have to be my best mate and his dad … They’ve always told me (especially the hard times) that no matter what happens out there go give it your all, believe in yourself and you’ll get there. Beat the bloke in the mirror who’s holding you back because it’s only yourself that’s telling you, you can’t !

This course provides hands-on experience of advanced strapping techniques, with a focus on injuries associated with the knee and shoulder joints. Advanced principles and application of strapping as a post-injury or preventative measure are also covered. This workshop builds on the beginner sports strapping workshop which is a prerequisite for registration. It is ideal for players, parents, team managers and first aid staff who work directly with athletes.

PNG, Samoa share QPICC honours
WHILE the official Four Nations kicked off at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium at the weekend – further south – another four nations tournament was also being played.
This year’s Queensland Pacific Island Cultural Carnival was staged at Beenleigh’s Bill Norris Oval with locally-based teams representing Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Cook Islands and Tonga playing across three days.
The Men’s Open final closed the event and saw two contrasting styles of play – with the power game of the Samoa team up against the quick ball movement of the PNG side.
After two entertaining halves – it was the PNG side who prevailed 28-24, with the talented Joe Bond a standout for his side.
Despite the Opens loss – Samoa supporters still went home with a smile on their face – with the nation claiming the Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18 titles.
The full results from the three days of competition are listed below:
Full Carnival results – Day 1, Day 2, Day 3
Finals games results – Under 14, Under 16, Under 18, Open Mens
The QPICC event was sanctioned by the Queensland Rugby League and received support from the SEQ Division, with the provision of referees and touch judges, administration assistance and resource support.
