HALF TIME COMMENTARY:

PNG Hunters started off playing great structured football but in the last 10-15 minutes their defensive play dropped off allowing the Norths Devils big men to dominate the attack.

Coach, Mark Marum, won’t be happy with the lack of discipline in defense in the latter part of the half.

It will be interesting to see if fatigue plays a role in the latter stages of the second half for the big men in the Norths Devils pack.

SECOND HALF:

A beautiful break from Minoga put Wera over just 50 seconds into the 2nd half! #PNG 16 v #Devils 12 with the kick to come.

#DEVILS 18 v #PNG 34

8 minutes left to play in this RD 13 #intrustsupercup #DEVILS 18 v #PNG 34 match.

#DEVILS 18 v #PNG 34

Moses Meninga Try! Boas boots it!
#DEVILS 18 v #PNGHunters 40

FULL TIME SCORE: Devils 18 v PNGHunters 40

FULL TIME COMMENTARY:

PNG Hunters stunned Norths in the opening 8 minutes of the second half with that fast flowing, ball passing attacking game that is typical of the PNG style of play. Beautiful to watch for rugby league fans of all flavours.

More importantly, PNG Hunters defense regrouped, got more disciplined and held out repeated Norths attacking runs. Character isn’t about making mistakes but rather what you do to correct them and today the PNG Hunters showed plenty of character to record their second 40

IntrustSuperCup HALF TIME SCORE: #PNGHunters 20 v #IpswichJets 0

Half Time Commentary:

The Ipswich Jets unique free style of play requires both speed and discipline in defence to keep them contained. Coach Marum has the Hunters defence doing both, effectively shutting down the Ipswich Jets in the first half.
In attack, the Hunters are working from wing to wing, everyone playing their part and being ably lead by their Captain, Ase Boas, who has clearly been marked for special attention from the Jets.
Let’s hope that they can maintain the rage in the second half!

SECOND HALF:

The Jets built up pressure and were just 3m out when an unforced dropped/forward pass let the Hunters off.
#IpswichJets got a roll on & looked set to score but a poor pass to Richie Pandia went over his head & a much needed try goes begging.
Both teams have played an incredibly fast and physical match and fatigue is starting to play a role in the game.
Dane Phillips scores the first try for the #IpswichJets with a well sold dummy.
#PNGHunters 20 v #IpswichJets 6.
PNGHunters conceding 10-15 metres/tackle as they drop both discipline & line speed & concede another try to #IpswichJets
PNG Hunters 20 v Ipswich Jets 12 – It is an 8 point game and the Jets are fired up.
Ase Boas Magic Boot earns the #PNGHunters another set of six with a well weighted kick into the in-goal area. Just 9mins left to go.
Ase Boas steps, weaves and SCORES! – And kicks the 2!
PNG Hunters 26 v Ipswich Jets 12
The Jets drag the ball over the line and concede the penalty.
TRY TIME to Bland Abavu! Boas adds the extras.
#PNGHunters 32 to #IpswichJets 12

FULL TIME SCORE: PNG HUNTERS 32 v IPSWICH JETS 12

Full Time Commentary:

PNG Hunters played a much better all round game. The 12 points from Ipswich being scored during a period when the defensive discipline and line speed from the Hunters lapsed but the Hunters were able to regroup, adapt and respond as needed.
Congratulations to all the #PNGHunter’s boys on a well constructed game against the #IpswichJets, a team known for its unique, rolling style of play!

Hunters 22 v Souths Logan 20 with Doyle narrowly missing the chance to even the score after the siren.

FINAL SCORE: Hunters 22 v Souths Logan 20.

Kokomo Daniel Russell had a solid game for the Magpies.

PNG defence conceding far too many metres before players are tackled, line discipline and speed is non existent, Magpies were able to come back time and time again because they were picking holes in the patchy defensive line.

They were lucky to collect the two championship points today but continued lack of defensive discipline will surely compromise their chances of making it to the final series.

Kokomos v Samoa

Yesterday 3rd Oct Results from Wavell Heights High School

Yesterday 3rd Oct Results from Wavell Heights High School
Our Kokomo u18s went down 32-26 in a great game of Rugby League. We were leading 20-16 at halftime after our boys showed their speed and some really good shifting of the ball and our forwards who took on the big Samoan boys front on.Coach Matty Muir was happy with performance. This was our 1st trail game and we can only keep the momentum going upwards as we prepare to shake the u18 Division in QPICC at the end of the month. Our u18s our our future and yesterday showed this 18s team means serious business this year. Top effort by all players and Coaching staff.
Our Mens “A” Kokomo side were beaten convincingly by a much bigger, stronger and skilled RLQ Samoan side 56-12.Defence in 1st half was our biggest letdown as the Samoans tore us apart with their aggressive running to reach 40 points.2nd half saw us put in a much better effort defensively, but we have a lot of work ahead us.We were missing a lot of our experience players who are still carrying injuries from our Kokomo 9s carnival but some of the youngsters that played will be much better for the experience. We lacked a lot of size up front yesterday which did not help us. Our 2 mens A & B play trials next Saturday against the East Maoris mens A and B which players can push their claims.Head Coach Elias Paiyo and assistant Neville Chang look at all players in all upcoming trials in which eventually will come up with a 25 man squad for the big QPICC Mens Division to defend our title. Yesterdays performance was very disappointing but our Kokomos will bounce back.
