Kokomos Flyer Impresses

Monday, 20 March 2017 by John Ten

Kokomos Representative, Anthony Seeto, has been impressing with his speed, with his new team. Seeto has been a long been a part of the Kokomos Men’s Open side, though missed out last year due to a broken arm. Not content to sit the representative season out, he coached the Logan Central 9s team in Kokomo 9s.

Quick hands from Minoga to Wawa Paul (on debut) on the wing provided the opportunity for another four pointer. Boas struck the ball beautifully from the wing to add another 2 points.

Another undisciplined defensive effort cost the Hunters, conceding a converted try to the Magpies.

HALFTIME SCORE: Hunters 12 vs Souths Logan 10

A big hit from what looked to be Stanton Albert forced the ball loose. Willie Minoga made a 70m run to score. Boas making sure of the kick.

Minoga, who is just on fire, scores his second try for the day. Boas misses his first kick for the day.

Hunters 22 vs Souths Logan 10

Kokomo Daniel Russell dove over the line to score for the Magpies but was held up.

Magpies were lucky to score a second set of six on the line after a PNG touch with the sustained pressure resulting in a try for Scott Doyle. Magpies add the much needed two points.

Hunters 22 v Souths Logan 16

Magpies score again in the dying minutes of the game. Taking the score to

Hunters 22 v Souths Logan 20 with Doyle narrowly missing the chance to even the score after the siren.

FINAL SCORE: Hunters 22 v Souths Logan 20.

Kokomo Daniel Russell had a solid game for the Magpies.

PNG defence conceding far too many metres before players are tackled, line discipline and speed is non existent, Magpies were able to come back time and time again because they were picking holes in the patchy defensive line.

They were lucky to collect the two championship points today but continued lack of defensive discipline will surely compromise their chances of making it to the final series.

THOUGHTS ON & EXPERIENCE PLAYING WITH KOKOMOS WOMENS IN QPICC 2016:
It’s an experience like no other. To see it start in 2015 with a bunch of women who had never played to last year’s event, I can say the experience was greater because we kept some (more experienced teams) on their feet.
THOUGHTS ON QLD PNG RUGBY LEAGUE ORGANISATION: I believe they are doing the best job they can with the amount of young teens, Men & Women involved here. Can honestly say I appreciate the opportunity they have created for all of us to continue playing.
